Lena’s life sucks. She’s living in a weird neighbor’s closet after having found out her boyfriend of two years was cheating on her, and the jerk ex won’t let her have her beloved dog, Harry. She’s been transferred at work and her boss is a lecherous dirty old man. When he makes a move, she punches him and quits. If it weren’t for her two online girlfriends, Gigi and Alex, life would be totally dark. Even though she’s never met them in person, she feels closer to them than anyone. Desperately in need of money to get her own place and get her dog back, she enters a contest for the best tale of female friendship. The prize is $50,000 and a presentation at the White House to the first lady and the group that sponsored the contest. Never expecting to win, she fabricates a tale of a fictional road trip taken by her, Gigi, and Alex. You guessed it—she wins!
The rest of the book is about the mad scramble of the three women to meet in Minneapolis and recreate the imaginary road trip in order to get pictures for the presentation. And like most of Lena’s life, not much goes according to plan. The author has created a fun story about friendship and great characters (including some great male ones, one of whom is a very sexy and very nice guy). If you enjoy romantic comedies at the movies, get this book and be prepared to laugh out loud occasionally and smile frequently. And if any movie moguls are reading this review, you need to check this book out! I can just see it on the screen! |
